Stations of the Cross – 1st Station

1st Station – At the last supper Jesus institutes the Eucharist

We adore you O Christ and we praise you.

Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.

When the time came he took his place at table, and the apostles with him. And he said to them, “I have ardently longed to eat the Passover before I suffer; because I tell you, I shall not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”

Then taking a cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and share it among you, because from now on, I tell you, I shall not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”

Then he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me”. He did the same with the cup after supper and said, “This cup is a new covenant in my blood poured out for you”.

St Luke’s Gospel 22:14-20

Reflection

Lord Jesus, as we contemplate the institution of the Blessed Eucharist, we thank you for the great gift of yourself to us in the Holy Mass where you are truly and substantially present. We praise you for this gift, help us to know and believe that the Eucharist is the source and summit of our lives as Catholic people. You give yourself to us as food and drink. We thank you nourishing us with your body and blood. Help us to love the Mass and always be faithful to it.

Lord Jesus Christ, crucified and risen, help us to follow you faithfully.
