Baptism

THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM marks the beginning of a child’s relationship with Christ. This is also an opportunity for parents to thank God for the gift of their child and to strengthen or rekindle their own relationship with Christ by the practice of their faith, that is, by coming into Christ’s presence at the celebration of Sunday Mass.

It is essential that at least, one parent, is a baptised Catholic and practising their Faith or, at least, has a renewed openness  to Christ and the practice of their Faith. The family of the child must be also be resident in the parish; the community where they and their child(ren) will grow in love of Christ.

If you wish to have your child baptised there are three simple steps:

  1. Please phone the parish office and register for the next two formation sessions. You will be asked to confirm that, at least, one parent is a Catholic and that you are living in the parish
  2. Parents must attend both formation sessions. The next session will be held on 2nd and 9th November starting promptly at 8 p.m. Please note that this formation is for the parents of babies, including those babies not yet born. If your child is 7 or over, they will have to be prepared in an alternative age appropriate way.
  3. Having considered whether you are willing to take on the   responsibility of being “the first and best teachers of your children in the practice of the faith”, please contact the parish office to arrange a date for your child’s baptism.

If you have any queries about any of the above or you just wish to discuss your own faith, please do not hesitate to contact F\r Martin.
