Stations of the Cross – 14th Station

14th  Station – The burial of Jesus

We adore you O Christ and we praise you.

Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.

They took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, following the Jewish burial custom. At the place where he had been crucified there was a garden, and in this garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been buried. Since it was the Jewish Day of Preparation and the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.

St John’s Gospel 19:40-42

Reflection

In this Station the artist depicts vividly Jesus laid out in death. The resting slab is covered in white, reminding us of the Altar where Mass is celebrated and the sacrifice of Cavalry is remembered at the celebration. It is a reminder of the taste of the Eucharist, as Christians gather to celebrate Holy Mass. Jesus is the Bread of Life who satisfies our hunger and the thirst and deepest human yearnings of the heart. He is the Bread of Life. He is our spiritual nourishment. Help us to believe, Lord, that ends are beginnings , and that grace is the door to eternal life. You are Lord of the living and the dead. You are with us always to the end of our days.

Lord Jesus Christ, crucified and risen, help us to follow you faithfully.
