Stations of the Cross – 6th Station

6th  Station – Jesus is Condemned

We adore you O Christ and we praise you.

Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.

First thing in the morning, the chief priests, together with the elders and scribes and the rest of the Sanhedrin, had their plan ready. They had Jesus bound and took him away and handed him over to Pilate. Pilate put to him this question, ‘Are you the king of the Jews?’ He replied, ‘It is you who say it.’ And the chief priests brought many accusations against him. Pilate questioned him again, ‘Have you no reply at all? See how many accusations they are bringing against you!’ But, to Pilate’s surprise, Jesus made no further reply

So Pilate, anxious to placate the crowd, released Barabbas for them and … handed him over to be crucified.

St Mark’s Gospel 15:1-5,10

Reflection

Pilate was coward. He was afraid of what the people would say and think. You, Jesus, were the innocent one. In our world today how many people suffer because of abuse of power, of dishonesty, of lies, cruelty and barbarity? So often we hide behind laws and regulations and lack courage.  We choose not to get involved, we opt for the easy way out. Lord Jesus, give us the courage we need to speak out, to stand up for what we believe to be right and true. Help us to bear witness to the truth of the Gospel in our lives and to take ownership of our Catholic Faith and always stand up for what we know is right and true.

Lord Jesus Christ, crucified and risen, help us to follow you faithfully.
